I used to dread it when my mom’s friends would come over and she would pull out baby pictures of me. It was so agonizing because it seemed as though she had countless photo albums from which she pulled out one embarrassing photo after another. How many times could one woman look at me trying to eat a bar of soap? Now that I am a mother myself, I completely understand my mother’s actions. Two years ago, I became that crazy woman who brought out pictures of my own baby even though no one had asked to see them. The only difference between my mother and myself was that instead of albums, I simply pulled out my cell phone and logged in to my social media accounts. Since you are a mother as well, I know you completely understand my actions.

How I Entered My First Free Photo Contest
I am not sure if my co-workers began to dread my arrival and the daily picture digest of my baby that I brought along with me, but one day one of them suggested that I enter online baby photo competitions since I obviously had so many pictures. Perhaps I should have taken this as a hint that I had become addicted to taking pictures of my son, but the mother in me did not think that for one minute. I simply started my hunt for a free photo contest because I knew my son could most definitely win any cute baby competition.
Choosing A Free Picture Competition
My search to find the perfect photo competition was both easy and difficult. First of all, it was easy because there are so many online baby contests out there. Secondly, it was tough because I took the time to find one that had a good reputation and a decent prize. I was disappointed that most of the free photo competitions did not have large prizes, unless your baby was lucky enough to win the Gerber Baby or the Baby Gap Contest. I knew that if I really wanted to enter a contest for the money, then I would have to choose one of the paid baby contests. While the money would have been great, I was much more interested in just having my baby win a title. After all, I knew Jorge was the cutest baby on the planet, but I wanted to know if other people thought my sweetheart was that adorable.
My First Free Photo Contest
I looked for a while and finally settled on a free photo contest. If I recall correctly, the prizes were not monetary; instead they were a featured spot on the website and a certificate of recognition. At the time it was enough for me and Jorge. Sadly, we did not win. I am still not sure why we did not win because when I looked at the kid who was featured the following month, I felt very certain that Jorge was 100 times cuter. I was somewhat pissed, but then I calmed down. I was going to win that free photo contest no matter what.
Tips to Entering a Baby Photo Competition
After losing once, I was determined to not lose again so I went and did additional research on winning baby photo competitions. I read about what makes a great picture and what does not make a great picture. I learned that one of my first mistakes was sending one of my favorite pictures. The problem was that it was one of my favorite pictures and not one of the better pictures. It was a great picture of my son in his crib, but the picture was a bit blurry because I was moving my cell phone when I took it. I also realized the lighting was not ideal either. Those, and similar details, were things I vowed to change for my next submission.
My Photo Contest Victory
I did not win on my second attempt, but I won on my third try. The reality is that there is no trick that guarantees a photo competition victory. All you can do is enter your best picture and hope that either the judges like what they see or in the case of public voting, that many people vote for your baby. I guess the only thing that can truly stop you from winning is not entering. I almost quit after the second loss, but I did not. If I had, I would never have won.
