So, you may have seen a pet contest encouraging you to enter amusing pictures of man’s best friend or perhaps even your youngest child in order that they be judged, and if voted the “cutest” - win prizes! Like me, you might view such things with skepticism. You might see them a little like a pageant or beauty contests where you are subjecting your pride and joy to cynicism or ridicule. But I have discovered that it really isn’t the case at all.

I have entered my pets picture in the pet contest at - http://www.cutepetphotocontest.com. I think it’s a great thing to do and you can have so much fun with your pets. Taking their cute pictures is a lot of fun and quite unpredictable at times. The most surprising part of it all is that the best pictures are the candid ones that I didn’t stage or try too hard at and they got the most votes. It is a great had regardless.

I stated with entering my pets and thought why not enter my kid’s cute pics. The prize money was greater – about $5,000 was awarded every month for the cutest kid photo and there was an opportunity to enter the Grand prize Contest for $25,000 for the kid voted the cutest kid for 2012. I started taking what seemed like a million pictures (thank goodness for digital cameras) and my kids started “Hamming it up” so I had to get them to tone it down. We sure had some fun and everyone got involved….even my husband. I registered and entered and the bonuses where great too. I got a one year subscription to “Parent” Magazine and a free 11′ X 14′ Canvas portrait made from the snapshot of my choice and many other bonuses. Truly a lot of fun. When we started to win some prizes. We haven’t won the big monthly prize yet but we did come close a few times. I guess i just have to get a little better at taking a good picture. That’s what it really boils down to. Kids are naturally cute and you can’t really take a bad picture but there are other mothers trying hard to do the same thing. The kids love the whole process though. The joy on the kids faces when we get into the top 10 is a magical moment. They are overjoyed. The cash prize would come in handy….I’ll be honest.

Another surprising thing that I didn’t really think about or expect was how the kids started getting growing in self esteem. they care more about their appearance and I didn’t have to force them to get dressed the right way and wear the right things. They would critique themselves on what to wear and whether this looked good with that. It was truly surprising and has given me a lot to think about the importance of building your child’s self image. Training that my parents did not really think about and to be quite honest neither did I until I started entering my kids into “thecutekid” contest.

Some people register and enter their kids in “thecutekid” contest because they want to give their children great exposure for a possible future in the entertainment industry or a commercial modeling career. It is one of the most famous and popular places for industry professionals to look for the next child star. For me though, it is more about bonding with my kids with something they are really interested in and building memories with them that we can always laugh about when they grow up. I can’t recommend the “thecutekid” contest enough.
